Today was an interesting (okay it was a rough) day for Malcolm. But as usual I can find the humor and sweet moments in the middle of the chaos (at least after the fact, when they are both in bed sleeping).
Malcolm knocked the breast pump off the table this morning. It was one that has been on the verge of breaking for the past 4+ years and of course finally broke completely. Ashley was upset because he though it was the good one. I was upset because it meant the milk I took the time to express this morning was wasted. Malcolm burst into tears "but how is Daddy going to feed Farley when Mommy isn't here?" He was so concerned, not realizing that a) I have a second pump, b)I've never left Farley for more than and hour so he isn't going to starve, and c) I have a small stash of frozen milk in the freezer.
I try to have Malcolm get at least one hour of quiet time after lunch, (I've given up trying for naps at home). Today he spent the first 1/2 hour very quiet and relaxed. He must have realize that he was starting to fall asleep so that was the end of 'quiet time'. He joined Farley and I in the living room and flitted around. I asked what he wanted to do for the rest of his quiet time and gave him some options; read a book, watch a movie, do a puzzle, colouring. His response; "I'm going to teach Farley how to knit". Okay....
Yes I tried one day to show Malcolm how to knit. Of course it failed miserably. But because he saw a cartoon character knitting he knows how to teach Farley, the six month old baby who is just mastering hand-eye coordination.
