For those of you that may have missed it, we felt a 5.0 magnitude earthquake here in Ottawa (the epicenter was 50 km outside of Ottawa).
I was at home with the two boys, with a friend and her baby daughter.  We had finished lunch and Malcolm was in fine form with a visitor in the house.  When the shaking started I thought it was the city finally drilling out the stump in our front yard, but when I looked out the front window it was empty.  It was then I slowly realized it was an earthquake.  I could tell Malcolm was nervous so I picked him up.  I was already carrying Farley on one hip, and we three stood in the middle of the living room and waited it out.  I would have stood in a door frame, except for the fact that holding both boys is hard and trying to walk at the same time is even harder and I don't know if the three of us would easily fit.

I was a little nervous about any questions Malcolm may have.  I had talked to him about the earthquake in Haiti when it occurred, but had prefaced it with something along the lines of 'we don't get earthquakes here'.  Silly me, I do know that we are along a fault line, and I have felt at least two other earthquakes in Montreal and Ottawa, but I didn't think we would feel one so large and so soon after.  He did say something about the little girl who was lost in the earthquake, but quickly moved on to something else.

I'm glad Malcolm was at home when it happened because of the time the earthquake hit, 1:40PM, right at nap time.  They evacuated the school which involved waking up all the sleeping children which would not have been a pretty picture.
