After a very fast and uncomplicated labour and delivery he was born at 3:20 am on December 28th. As luck would have it Laurel, Marc, Clara & Leo were visiting that night so when Ashley and I needed to make our quick departure in the early hours of the morning we didn't have to employ one of our friends/neighbours to look after Malcolm. With all the commotion right outside his bedroom (gathering bag, camera, car seat, coat and boots) Malcolm did wake up and was very concerned because "Mommy can't go outside, she's wearing pyjamas". All he wanted (and needed) was for Daddy to snuggle him back to sleep, but time would not allow. Instead he and Auntie Laurel had an adventure of watching movies in the middle of the night and then crawling into bed with Clara. She and Leo managed to sleep through it all.
Baby Boy B scored a perfect 10/10 on the APGAR scale, and weighed in at 7lbs 15oz (just a little smaller than his big brother) 55 cm in length and an average head circumference of 34cm. (sorry Leo, no signs of Big Head here).
We were back home around 6:00am. Ashley woke up Malcolm to meet his new baby brother which he was very excited about. Although he was probably just as excited when he saw the box of Timbits we brought along, and there was no double foot jump like he had displayed when Uncle Marc came to the door the afternoon before.
The rest of the morning was hectic. Not so much for me and the baby as we managed to doze in the bedroom for a while. But poor Ashley tried in vain to get Malcolm to go back to sleep, and then the cousins were up and it was all over. I think they all had a big breakfast with croissants, boiled eggs, and pineapple, and the grownups tried to wrangle three very tired and excited kids (the grownups themselves exhausted). And before the G family left back for a dinner in Montreal we even managed to squeeze in a gift exchange that we had deferred the night before.
