Reader beware; Potty talk ahead

Just before dinner this evening we hit up Ikea to buy a pot and frying pan to leave in the trailer. While there, we passed by the children's section where they had $3 potties.

For the past month or so whenever Malcolm says he does not want to put a dry diaper my response is "when you can pee on the potty you don't have to wear a diaper". He was okay with this, and asked for the potty (he's sat on a potty a Jen's place so he knows all about it). The only problem was we didn't have a potty yet. So the $3 potty was a good idea for us.

We asked Malcolm if he wanted the white or red potty, he chose red and talked about it the rest of the trip till we got home. As we were getting out of the car and Ashley told Malcolm that if he peed or pooped in the potty he could flush the toilet when we dumped it. We figured this was a good reward that we could live up to. Malcolm is obsessed with talking about flushing the toilet after Mommy and Daddy come out of the bathroom, even if we aren't using the toilet.

The first thing we had to do when we got into the house was take of Malcolm's shorts and diaper where he happily sat on the little red potty in the middle of the living room. I gave him a book and Ashley pulled the footstool over so he could use it as a table for his slushy (don't judge me).

Malcolm got up from the potty once or twice as Ashley and I scurried around the house doing laundry, making dinner, unpacking, and mowing the lawn, but he was easily guided back to the potty. When he got up and picked up the potty saying flush, I thought this was just another one of those times, but no he peed in the potty and was ready to flush it away!

I know that we are a long road away from potty training, but if Malcolm wants to head in that direction I'll gladly follow along.
