Ashley made the observation last night at dinner that Malcolm has developed his own musical taste.
For Malcolm's whole life he's had to endure/enjoy my singing. I always felt goofy talking to a small baby but did not (and still don't) have any issues singing out loud to him. Whether we are hanging out in the house, trying to get him to sleep, or out walking down the street or in the grocery store I can usually be found singing. The songs usually fall into three categories; children's songs (Sharron, Lois & Bram, Raffi, Sesame Street, etc.), show tunes, or the songs I sang in children's choir. Yesterday afternoon as I was walking Malcolm home from daycare we passed the neighborhood junk collector/banjo man we made our usually salutation of a nod, smile, and hello and he responded with a "sing it out loud!" It made me laugh in a good way.
The first time I put on the Raffi CD for Malcolm and the first song (one of my standards), "You sing a song" came through the speakers in a male voice, not Mama's Malcolm did a double take. Looking from the black speakers where the sound was coming from to me standing on the other side of the room clearly not singing.
Last night at the dinner table we had the radio on when "Glamorous" by Fergi played and Malcolm started bopping his head to the music when the opening music started. Ashley made the observation that Malcolm starts doing that every time that song and a handful of others come on. One of his other favorites; "Beautiful Girls" by Shawn Kingston. I think we have created a top 40 pop music fan, and I'm not sure how I feel about that?
